geographIT, a division of EBA Engineering, Inc., is recruiting qualified candidates to fill several full-time GIS Technician positions in our Lancaster, Pennsylvania, or Laurel, Maryland, offices. Remote work will also be considered on a part-time or full-time basis for the right candidate.   

Position Description

Responsibilities

  • Converts and edits GIS data including scanning, geo-referencing, digitizing, and attributing features and performing QA/QC on GIS data
  • Designs and produces visually appealing and informative cartographic products
  • Configures ArcGIS Online SaaS applications
  • Collects field data using GPS data loggers and/or GIS apps deployed on tablets
  • Performs QA/QC testing and bug reporting for custom solutions
  • Prepares GIS metadata
  • Prepares technical reports and documents, such as user help manuals  

Primary Skills

  • Independent learner who applies ArcGIS software products to support project requirements and investigates capabilities of recent software upgrades and new software product releases  
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of cartography best practices, including map projections, data classification, symbolization, color selection, label placement, and map layout
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on timeliness and quality of work. Applies quality control procedures on all project deliverables
  • Creates and edits data using ArcGIS Desktop software
  • Understands topology relationships within GIS datasets
  • Creates metadata for GIS datasets
  • Team player who communicates effectively with supervisor and project teams
  • Technical writing and editing skills sufficient to organize and produce user help documents/manuals
  • Technical and analytical aptitude to learn and apply new skills to future tasks
  • Proficiency with Windows operating system and the suite of Microsoft Office products 

Desired Skills

  • SQL Query language
  • ArcGIS Model Builder and/or Python for geoprocessing automation
  • Publishing ArcGIS Server web services
  • ArcGIS Platform knowledge and hands-on experience including desktop and enterprise experience
  • ArcGIS Online configuration and management
  • Editing road centerline and/or core GIS addressing datasets
  • Editing water/wastewater network GIS datasets  

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BS or BA degree from accredited university with 9 credit hours in GIS courses

 

    • Note: Years of industry experience will be considered as a substitute for education.
  • Recent college graduates with GIS internship experience are encouraged to apply

 

  • Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of and ability to use ArcGIS Desktop products

  • U.S. citizen or Green Card immigration resident in the United States
  • Ability to successfully pass a federal, state, and local security background check
  • Pre-employment drug screening
